Clint Eastwood: Who did the thing?
I’ve wanted to make a post about this for a long time but I never really got round to it. I’m not very good at wording/explaining things and I doubt this message will reach an audience beyond my current followers but it’s worth a shot. I’m also sorry in advance if this takes up
precioustag space of those characters who are tagged in the graphic.
When I was younger, I was diagnosed with cancer. Acute myeloid leukemia — to be precise — which is a cancer of the blood. It’s a difficult thing to have to go through — not only for your family but for you as the patient. I lost all my hair during treatment which lead to a fair bit of bullying, I had to stay in hospital for months at a time which caused me to miss a lot of school. But in comparison, my experience could have been a lot worse.
Thankfully, I managed to kick some serious cancer ass and beat it but unfortunately, that’s not the case for everyone. During my treatment I made lots of new friends but one friend I remember in particular was a girl called Amelia. She had AML too and her hospital bed cubicle was just along side mine. Over time, we became good friends and were known to wreak havoc around the ward. However, despite suffering from the same cancer, Amelia’s treatment had to be delayed due to the fact they couldn’t find a suitable bone marrow donor for her transplant; and despite her parents best efforts to try and encourage people to sign up to become a donor in hope that they’d finally find a match, Amelia passed away.
What I’m trying to say is.. you don’t have to wear a cape; have super human powers or even put your own health at serious risk to save lives and be a hero. All it takes is a few minutes of your time to sign up to your local blood bank or bone marrow registry and be willing to donate once they’ve matched you to a patient. Someone’s life out there could be saved by you, just like someone out there saved mine. Personally, I don’t think there’s any better honor than that.
Besides, if it wasn’t for my donor I wouldn’t be alive and you guys wouldn’t have my fabulous blog to follow.
This story made me tear. *sigh* It’s always good to give some of your blessings, such as your health, for the benefit of others. Always look to help others. Your community. Even communities that aren’t your own. That’s what makes us people, and that’s what makes us “heroes”.
Apparently we got new hundos. It’s got a cool 3D strip in the middle. #Benjamins #USTreasury #FederalReserve
